FRANKFURT, Germany — The one-off Maybach 57 S Edition 125!, which debuted at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show, gets such luxury touches as a glove compartment lid embroidered with the signature of Wilhelm Maybach, matte black 20-inch wheels and a new radiator grille.

It was a much more refined appearance for the embattled Maybach brand than its August desecration at the hands of rappers Kanye West and Jay-Z.

In June, Daimler boss Dr. Dieter Zetsche griped that Maybach is "not running at the levels which we planned when we launched the product."

Zetsche said at the time that it "might be prudent to exchange views (with other luxury carmakers)" such as Aston Martin.

Bloomberg on Wednesday reported that Daimler is in talks with Aston Martin on a potential cooperation for the Maybach brand.

"We are close to a decision," Zetsche said.

In the meantime, the Maybach 57 S Edition 125! celebrates the 125th birthday of the automobile, according to Daimler.

The one-off also gets the new Tahiti Black/Patagonia Silver exterior paints, as well as contour lighting and a laser-engraved light motif in the front armrest.

The luxury brand also said it is now possible to adorn the seats of the Maybach with Swarovski crystals.

Inside Line says: The future of Maybach may be up in the air, but this special model helps it hark back to its heyday in the 1930s.

@ a1c_scg, you're right.  I never noticed that before.  If they just took the S600 and made every option standard, gave it ugly two-tone paint and slapped a Maybach badge on it then it would be so much better than this car.

There should be a Deusenberg edition next gen Maybach. They need a new platform.

yeah it is, just like the concept they released this week.

Maybe they thought it was a smart idea to steal a page out of Kia's playbook...
