Villa d'Este: Carrozzeria Touring Bellagio Fastback

    0 Ratings
LAKE COMO, Italy — Every year, wild concepts and supercars alike head to the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este. The cars compete for the gathering's coveted Design Award for Concept Cars & Prototypes. One special entrant this year is a Maserati customized by the recently resuscitated firm Carrozzeria Touring.

Carrozzeria has taken a Maserati Quattroporte and converted it into a wagon, calling it the Bellagio Fastback. This may sound like an unnecessary and unwanted conversion, but the transition is almost seamless, and the car loses none of its sleekness or refinement.

The Maserati will be in fine company as well, as concepts are being flown in from all over the world. Alongside the Bellagio will be the Bentley Zagato Continental GTZ, the Mercedes-Benz F700, the Lexus LF-A and the Bugatti Veyron Fbg by Hermès.

Karl Baumer, chairman of the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este and director of BMW Group Mobile Tradition, elaborates on the significance of the event: "It allows us to construct a unique scenario.... Models which are normally only seen in isolation on a pedestal at motor shows can reveal themselves in action in the light of day and be directly compared with other design studies and prototypes."

The Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este runs from April 25-27.

What this means to you: If you're traveling in Italy, stop and cheer the Bellagio Fastback on; it's up against some steep competition. — Paul Tassi, Correspondent
