2006 Maserati Quattroporte Executive/Sport GT
What's Special About It?
As the closest thing to a Ferrari with four doors, the Quattroporte is already a sweet sedan. But there are always going to be those buyers who want that little extra measure of exclusivity so for them Maserati created the Quattroporte Executive GT and the Quattroporte Sport GT.
As its name implies, the Sport GT is the runner of the two. Engage the sport transmission button and the reprogrammed engine computer will deliver shifts that are 35-percent faster than the standard model. A retuned exhaust promises an even better sound from the 4.2-liter V8 and even the Skyhook suspension was retuned for tighter handling.
On the outside the Sport GT can be identified by its black chrome grille and side intakes as well as its seven-spoke, 20-inch wheels. Titanium brake calipers are also unique to the Sport GT as are the cross-drilled brake rotors and steel-braided brake lines. Interior modifications are limited to a carbon-fiber steering wheel, aluminum pedals and the all-important carbon-fiber emergency brake cover.
For less enthusiastic drivers, the Executive GT gives the Quattroporte added luxury features. All four seating positions get adjustable seats with heating, ventilation and massage functions. Rear passengers get fold-down picnic trays and privacy curtains along with separate ventilation controls. An Alcantara headliner and leather-trimmed steering wheel are the final touches to the interior.
On the outside, the Executive GT's only distinguishing features are its chrome grille, chrome side intakes and unique 19-inch wheels.
What's Edmunds' Take?
The sloppy shifts from Maserati's Cambiocorsa gearbox are one of the Quattroporte's major flaws so the Sport GT's quicker shifts might be a significant upgrade. The extra features on the Executive GT are less appealing, but it's not a bad way to go if you're into eating lunch in the backseat. — Ed Hellwig
