2005 Maserati Quattroporte
What's Special About It?
Apart from its distinctive Pininfarina-designed shape, the Quattroporte also features a powerful V8 engine and a sumptuous interior that places it on par with any of its German rivals. Intended to reside at the top of the highly competitive ultraluxury sedan class, the Quattroporte will go on sale in the U.S. next summer.
Its dimensions are similar to Mercedes' S-Class and BMW's 7 Series sedans, with ample room front and rear for four adults. Like a fine Italian suit, buyers will be able to choose from three kinds of wood trim and 10 shades of leather to give each Quattroporte an individual style all its own. All the latest technological features are available, like satellite navigation, a Bose sound system and a rear-seat DVD screen.
Under the hood lurks a 4.2-liter V8 that develops 400 horsepower for truly sensational performance. A six-speed Maserati DuoSelect (MSD) transmission offers either traditional automatic shifts or paddle actuated manual control for maximum involvement. This combination results in a 0-to-60-mph time of just 5.2 seconds. The adjustable Skyhook suspension makes use of the Quattroporte's 47/53 front to rear weight distribution to provide a nimble but comfortable feel during various types of driving.
Why Should You Care?
This ultraluxury sedan segment has been dominated by the Germans for so long most people seem to forget that Maserati has produced several stunning sedans over the years. This all-new Quattroporte not only delivers inspired performance, it has the style and comfort to match. Those looking for a truly distinctive luxury sedan that won't get lost in the crowd should be well served by this Italian beauty. Ed Hellwig
