Tuner Special: Edo Maserati MC12

AHLEN, Germany — Edo Competition has once again aimed its long wrench at the Maserati MC12. The result is an even lighter, faster car than the standard production model.

Edo has fitted new exhaust headers, high-flow catalytic converters and a stainless-steel performance muffler at the business end of the MC12's 6.0-liter V12. Up front, the engine gets a recalibrated ECU and a modified intake system with high-flow air filters and a new carbon fiber airbox.

The tuning house is now squeezing 689 horsepower from the V12, up from the stock 624 hp, while torque climbs from 481 to 527 pound-feet. Edo says its enhanced MC12 can reach a terminal velocity in excess of 230 mph, making the 0-60-mph run in less than 3.5 seconds.

Other modifications include the addition of high-performance ceramic-composite brakes, adjustable sport suspension, high-performance clutch and an adjustable rear wing. Edo fits Michelin 265/35ZR19 tires in front and 335/30ZR20s in the rear, mounted on lightweight alloy wheels that can be painted on request. A tire-pressure monitoring system measures temperature and pressure at each wheel.

Exterior changes are limited to Makrolon headlamp covers and carbon-fiber air intakes. Customers can specify paint scheme.
