ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, New Jersey — Billed as "the fastest production Maserati vehicle available in North America," the new 2012 Maserati GranTurismo MC — created by the Italian automaker's racing team Maserati Corse — carries a retail price tag of $139,900, while its companion, the 2012 GranTurismo Convertible Sport, lists for $142,800.
The GranTurismo MC is a thoroughbred developed on the track, with a specially tuned version of the Maserati 4.7-liter V8, which delivers 444 horsepower and 374 pound-feet of torque. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through an ZF six-speed automatic gearbox.
The Italian sports-car subsidiary of Fiat says the GranTurismo MC, which accelerates from zero to 60 in 4.8 seconds and has a top speed of 185 mph, is "the fastest production Maserati vehicle available in North America."
The four-place Maserati GranTurismo Convertible Sport features a 4.7-liter V8 and six-speed automatic with paddle shifters.
Among the hardware highlights are a Sport Skyhook adaptive suspension, a sport exhaust system, new front aerodynamic fascia, side skirts and dark look trim and headlamps, as well as body-colored door handles.
Inside Line says: Retuned and refined for 2012.

It's far from the quickest of the bunch, but this car isn't about brute force. If all you wanted was speed, get a GT-R or Vette and save yourself some cash. Also, you'd have to be smoking a something illegal to believe a stock Hyundai Genesis can "keep up" with this. The 370z or a Mustang 5.0 has better numbers, but even then its a toss up. Magazine racing is fun, but pretty much worthless in real world scenarios anyways. I do agree that for $139k, it should be faster, especially if you claim it to be the fastest Maserati in North America.

The Corvette ZR1 is cheaper and faster (0-60, and top speed).

I am suprised they could not make it a bit faster. For gosh sake a Hyundai Genesis can keep up with it. Though one of the best exhaust notes in the business goes to Maserati.
