GENEVA — Maserati has released the four-passenger GranTurismo, the latest in a line of stunning GT models stretching back 50 years. Equally long-lived is Maserati's collaboration with the coachbuilder Pininfarina, which has designed the latest creation.

Under the sensuous skin of the GranTurismo lies a twin-cam 4.2-liter V8 that makes 405 horsepower and 339 pound-feet of torque. Mated to a semi-automatic gearbox, the GranTurismo has a top speed of 177 mph and can sprint from zero to 60 mph in less than 5.2 seconds.

Maserati says the design was inspired by the Pininfarina Birdcage concept. Inside, the GranTurismo, living up to its name, can seat four adults in comfort. Owners can trim the vehicle in a wide range of materials and colors, including rich woods and leather.

On the new car, Maserati also is offering a five-piece set of matched luggage from Salvatore Ferragamo. Inspired by the contours of the car's grille, the luggage set can be ordered in two different materials and a choice of four colors.

What this means to you: Maserati continues to overhaul its product line, with financial assistance from parent Fiat.
