    What is it?
    Maserati 3200GT

    What's special about it?
The next updated version of this car in spyder (convertible) form will be the torchbearer for the Maserati marque as it returns to the American market. With nearly 400 horsepower, it'll be a real screamer. The goods include a 90-degree turbocharged 3.2-liter V8 making 370 hp at 6,250 rpm, throttle control that uses a motor-driven drive-by-wire system, and the choice of six-speed manual or automatic transmissions.

The 3200GT can be configured in a customization program to help customers build a made-to-order car with colors and finishes that can be selected to best interpret personal tastes. Exterior colors include Neptune Blue, Sebring Blue, Argentina Blue and the red of the Assetto Corsa.

The 3200GT Assetto Corsa is a special version that includes updated suspension, bigger antisway bars, Pirelli P Zero tires and racing brake pads. The ride height is also 150 mm lower than the standard 3200GT's, although the engine is the same 3.2-liter V8 as found in the standard 3200GT.

    Why should you care?
Gearing up for a return to the States, Maserati of North America was set up in 2000. The team is dedicated to returning Maserati to the USA, and organizational work will be done by the end of 2001 with a view to seeing the return of the "Trident cars" to U.S. roads in 2002. The objective is to sell more than 40 percent of all Maserati output in the U.S., thus ensuring an important contribution to growth in international sales. If you really like the 3200GT, you'll love the fact that you will actually be able to buy one next year. We sure do. — Miles Cook
