Lotus and Cosworth Strengthen Alliance

    3 Ratings

LONDON — Group Lotus and engine specialist Cosworth said they plan to jointly develop high-performance Toyota-based engines for Lotus production and racing cars.

The strategic partnership strengthens the ties between two of Britain's renowned performance companies. Their relationship dates to the early 1960s and grew to include the legendary Cosworth DFV engine that powered Lotus and other manufacturers to 167 victories in Formula 1.

Cosworth once again will be supplying racing engines in 2010 to the new Lotus F1 team.

The companies' latest agreement extends that partnership to include a Cosworth-modified Toyota V6 engine for the new Lotus Evora Cup racing car, as well as high-performance Cosworth versions of the four-cylinder Toyota engines used in Lotus' road cars.

Not really historic unless Lotus/Cosworth start using Ford or Honda motors.
