HETHEL, England — To honor longtime engineering director Roger Becker, who retired earlier this year, and to mark the end of production of some Euro-spec 1.8-liter models, Lotus Cars is releasing Elise SC RGB and Exige S RGB special editions in September.
The 217-horsepower Elise SC RGB will be priced in the U.K. starting at $57,200 after tax and in continental Europe from $54,200 before tax. The 257-hp Exige S RGB will be priced in the U.K. from $62,300 and in continental Europe from $62,150.
Both cars use the supercharged Toyota 1.8-liter 2ZZ VVTL-i four-cylinder engine, which is to be phased out later this year. The Elise SC RGB sprints from zero to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds, while the Exige S RGB makes the same run in 4.0 seconds flat.
The RGB models are fitted with ultra-lightweight forged-alloy wheels and are being offered in a choice of four colors: Aspen White, Starlight Black, Solar Yellow and Carbon Gray. Both cars come with a sport pack and a touring pack, while the Exige S RGB also features a performance pack.
Inside Line says: A nice nod to Becker and a special treat for Lotus fans. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
