SEALY, Texas — We recently showed you what John Hennessey's Venom GT was all about, and now the company has released a few CFD (computation fluid dynamics) images and the almost-unbelievable supercar's performance numbers.
Based on a Lotus Exige S that's been stretched by two feet and widened by one, the two-seater will get a mid-mounted twin-turbo version of the 6.2-liter LS9 Corvette V8. It will lay down 1,000 horsepower in street trim, while the race variant will develop as much as 1,200 horsepower to the rear wheels through the six-speed manual.
By combining a lightweight chassis and 1,000 hp, Hennessey creates a speed-hungry vehicle that is estimated to travel to 60 mph in 2.4 seconds, sprint to 100 mph in 5.3 seconds and top out at 272 mph.
Hennessey's latest claim is that the vehicle's carbon ceramic brake system will stop the vehicle from 200 mph in just 7 seconds flat — meaning the vehicle could be capable of going 0 to 200 mph and back to 0 mph in just 20 seconds.
To put it in perspective, the 2009 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport takes 18.3 seconds to reach 200 mph.
Hennessey also just released CFD images illustrating the airflow around the car. The pictures show how the Venom GT's adjustable rear wing acts as an air brake that can generate up to 1.5 negative Gs under deceleration.
Get ready for the Venom GT Concept to debut next March at the 2010 Geneva Auto Show.
Inside Line says: Despite its earth-shattering performance numbers, a $600,000 price tag for a glorified Lotus Exige with a hot Corvette sounds pretty steep. — Mike Lysaght, Correspondent
