BIRMINGHAM, England — Lotus Motorsport is launching a one-make racing series this year, featuring the new Lotus Evora Cup racing car. The vehicle and the series were announced here at the Autosport International show. Final design and specs will be revealed in early March at the 2010 Geneva Auto Show.

Based on the production Evora, the new Evora Cup racing car is designed for GT4 competition and can be configured for endurance and sprint racing. Finished in Epsom Green with a Solar Yellow center stripe, the car features a new 4.0-liter V6 that makes more than 400 horsepower and is paired with a Cima six-speed sequential gearbox with paddle shifters.

The Evora Cup car sheds more than 440 pounds from the production Evora and gets a carbon-fiber aero kit developed by Dallara to improve cooling and handling. The racing car also features adjustable shocks and six-piston front calipers as well as traction control and an electrical cutoff.

The Evora Cup racing car is priced from $195,700, plus local taxes. Lotus has not determined whether the car will be offered to customers in North America.

The new Evora Cup series in Europe offers $145,000 in prize money and finishes the season with events at Donington Park and Vallelunga.
