    Just the Facts:
    • The Italian military police will use their special-liveried Lotus loaners to lug blood and organs, among other official duties.
    • The bespoke Evoras will be deployed for two years in Rome and Milan.
    • The carabinieri dispatched drivers to Hethel for special on-track training.

ROME — The Italian military police — better known as the carabinieri — have taken delivery of two bespoke Lotus Evora S police cars, which will see special duty for two years in Rome and Milan.

Among other chores, the sporty cop cars will be used in medical emergencies to transport blood and vital organs, which can be stored in a special portable refrigeration compartment that's been installed behind the front seats.

The Evoras also feature the latest voice recognition technology, as well as dark blue paint with white lettering and an official-looking roof-mounted lightbar.

Group Lotus CEO Dany Bahar handed over the cars at carabinieri headquarters here.

Lotus isn't the first manufacturer to provide specially equipped sports cars in Italy. Lamborghini three years ago famously provided a one-of-a-kind Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Polizia to the Italian state police.

In recent years, British makes from Vauxhall to Jaguar also have created special police cars for municipal clients.

Surprising that they didnt choose something Italian .........being a nationalistic society proud of their heritage......Yes a British Lotus Evora is cheaper than the cheapest Lamborghini or Ferrari but what about an Alfa Romeo? or high end FIAT?.........I cant think of any modern applicable Lancia or Maserati  ..........but surely there had to be an Italian make to consider.

Any city or state official who believes exotic performance cars are a good use of tax money should be punched in the face.
