MONTEREY, California — The 420-horsepower Lotus Evora GTE Road Car Concept will make its world debut on August 17 during Pebble Beach week, Lotus announced on Monday.
Lotus told Inside Line on Monday that the car eventually may be sold in some markets as a street-legal vehicle, but that it probably won't be sold in North America.
"It's probably unlikely for North America," said Kevin Smith, a Lotus spokesman, in a phone conversation with Inside Line. "But we may take it into other markets as a street-legal road car."
Pricing has not been announced for a street-legal version of the Evora GTE.
The Lotus Evora GTE is the weapon of choice for the brand's entry into the new global motorsport GTE category.
"The Evora GTE Road Car Concept isn't merely a paint scheme or homage to a racecar — this is a serious racecar that makes for a very serious road car," said Lotus in a statement.
The Evora GTE Road Car Concept gets a sequential AMT racing gearbox and ultra-lightweight forged alloy wheels with center-lock hubs and Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires.
Earlier this summer, Lotus said the Evora GTE will be the centerpiece of the new Lotus Sport USA team.
Lotus said on Monday that the 2011 Lotus Exige Matte Black Final Edition will also be on display during Pebble Beach week.
Inside Line says: Lots of Lotus excitement at Pebble Beach.

So Lotus is copying Porsche's marketing philosophy for the 911. That's 3 different price points for the Evora in a year. I guess we know how they're going to finance all that model development.

Please stop all commenting, we have an official fault!
jeremy_c says: Do you also think Rosie O'Donnell is sexy?
The comparison of Rosie O'Donnell's sex appeal to the looks of a Lotus Evora GTE is the stupidest thing I have ever read. Although I appreciate your... intent, please put more thought into future comparisons.
Thank you, please resume commenting.
