HETHEL, England — Lotus has announced that it has improved fuel economy and reduced CO2 emissions substantially on its 2010 model Elise and Exige. The automaker with a reputation for cutting-edge engineering says its cars are down 9 percent for CO2 emissions and up by as much as 3.2 mpg in fuel economy.
Lotus says the Elise S is doing best for 2010 with a combined fuel economy that's the equivalent of U.S. 30.9 mpg. That's an improvement from the previous model's combined 28.3 mpg. The Elise R has a combined fuel economy of 26.8 mpg U.S., and the Elise SC and Exige S both average 27.7 mpg.
Not surprisingly coming from Lotus, the company credits "focusing on lightweight technology and small, efficient engines" for the improvement. Group Lotus CEO Mike Kimberley said in a statement that Lotus is "at the cutting edge of green transport technology" and is intending to look for "an ethical, green option that appeals to our customer."
