Small Gulp: Lotus Rolls Out New Entry-Level Version of 2-Eleven

HETHEL, England — Lotus is lowering the price of entry for would-be racers with the announcement of a new entry version of its 2-Eleven track car.

Prices in England will start at just over $53,000, excluding taxes and delivery. That's a substantial drop from the previous price point of $76,000 for the basic 2-Eleven that was unveiled at last year's Geneva auto show.

The 2-Eleven has a base curb weight of only 1,600 pounds and shares its 189-horsepower four-cylinder engine with the Elise R. Acceleration from zero to 60 mph takes only 4.3 seconds, and top speed is 140 mph.

Customers can choose from a wide variety of stand-alone options and packages, including a supercharged engine rated at 252 hp and 179 pound-feet of torque. Top speed climbs to 150 mph, and 0-60-mph acceleration is slashed to 3.8 seconds.

Other options include a choice of limited-slip differentials, a carbon-fiber tonneau cover, four-pot front brakes, an FIA-approved fuel tank and a removable competition steering wheel.

What this means to you: Lotus continues to embrace the concept of budget-conscious racing. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
