DEARBORN, Michigan — The EPA has yet to weigh in on the fuel economy of the 2009 Lincoln Navigator, but Ford this week said its thirsty full-size SUV now gets better gas mileage. The '09 Navigator 4x2 with a 5.4-liter V8 and six-speed automatic transmission delivers an estimated 14 miles per gallon in city driving and 20 mpg on the highway, according to Ford.
The EPA reports that the 2008 Navigator 4x2 with the same powertrain delivers 12 mpg in city driving and 18 mpg on the highway.
Ford attributes the 2009 Navigator fuel-economy improvement to "a combination of architectural changes and systems engineering enhancements." The automaker said it has engineered software to aggressively shut off fuel flow during deceleration.
Ford also said it has simplified the packaging of the Navigator and Navigator L. Standard items now include the power lift gate, heated and cooled front seats, PowerFold third-row seats, front parking-assist sensors and other items.
