To answer joeo and bodyshopboy, yes there is a reason to buy the upmarket version. We just went car shopping for the last couple of months and bought the MKZ. WHY? Because it really is a different car than the Fusion/Milan. Even though the chassis may be the same, they have done so much to make it a luxury vehicle that if you actually drive it after say a Milan (which we did btw) it is a completely different experience. The same was true for the MKS and the Taurus SHO for 2010. We wondered what could be worth so much more when the specs seemed to be the same.  A test ride was like turning on the light. NOT the same thing. Lexus is the luxury division of Toyota, doesn't mean a GS is an Avalon. Drove those too. Drove a Cadillac CTS and Buick LaCrosse... again two different experiences for what may appear to be the same thing. Honda and Nissan have Acura and Infinity for their "Cadillac" brands and the products are a world apart.  Try it and you'll see.

I'm no Lexus fanboy at all, but I always raise my eyebrows when people call the ES a Camry with leather, a luxurious Camry, etc.

Bodyshopboy, have you sat in one?

It's clearly not in the same level as a Camry's interior design, you can't tell they were from the same platform. The whole center stack is much more unique than most vehicles, with its oval-like shape.

Again, I'm not a Lexus fanboy. I prefer my cars with athletic handling. But I know enough to appreciate the different brands' missions.

sitting in new lincolns, the fit n finish is so much better than it used to be. personally, i'd rather have a mercury (i know, its weird). basically because they're just better cars than ford. i dont know how but they are. ive never had a problem with the 3 mercurys ive had in the past ten years, but the fords were never quite that good. hopefully theyve raised the bar on lincoln and ford since then

I like the MKZ, but then I am partial (based on the same chassis as my Mazda 6). I think it makes more sense for Ford to offer this model as a hybrid...more even than the Fusion. One would expect this car to be expensive and I still have a problem with buying a $28000 Fusion just to say that I have a hybrid. A 3.0L V6 Fusion with the same equiptment can be had for under $23000 after discounts and rebates so the dollars to buy the hybrid simply don't make sense (a little pun for you). I know it is suppossed to be about going green, but hybrids need to make better sense from an economical standpoint (read: they cost more like only $1000-$1500 more than their non-hybrid counterpart).

Why would anybody by the luxury version of any car? It comes down to content and fit and finish. An ES350 is simply a Camry with better leather, yet there are plenty on the road.

Do people really buy these cars that cost twice as much as a Ford for the same thing?

Haha but no alex because the Fusion hybrid experienced the same brake issues from its regenerative braking system as the Prius.

Along with Lincolns other products Id rather get Ford which will have about the same feature content for thousands less.

I'll take the Ford over the Lexus - simple because Ford's brakes are likely to work.. Just playin'..  The Lincoln's display nice but almost 'Civic-ish'?  I like it in the Civic but not doing it for me here..  Fuel efficiency numbers looks pretty good tho.. Overall, a very good effort imo..
