    Just the Facts:
    • The insurance industry group bestows its "top safety pick" rating on MKX "when built after February 2011."
    • The MKX joins the Lincoln MKS and MKZ sedans and the MKT utility vehicle as IIHS top safety picks.
    • All Lincolns now feature standard stability control and such safety technologies as advanced radar warning systems.

DEARBORN, Michigan — The 2011 Lincoln MKX has been named a top safety pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety "when built after February 2011." The MKX joins the Lincoln MKS and MKZ sedans and the MKT utility vehicle as IIHS top safety picks.

In order to be named a top safety pick by the insurance industry group, a vehicle must have standard electronic stability control, as well as a rating of "good" in IIHS offset frontal-, side- and rear-impact crash tests and roof strength evaluations. The 2011 MKX received a running change earlier this year to the roof to enable the crossover to receive the high rating in roof strength.

All Lincolns now feature standard stability control and such safety technologies as advanced radar warning systems. The MKX also is equipped with front and side airbags and side curtains.

Inside Line says: A pretty impressive bragging point for the Lincoln brand.

It's not surprising given their track record.  After the mentioned saftey disasters, they seemed to be aware and addressed the issues.  Unfortunately, it took lawsuits and loss of life to get to this point.

No surprise here either.  Ford's have always for the most part built safe cars.
