DEARBORN, Michigan — Ford's Lincoln brand has trimmed the offerings in its large MKT crossover range for model year 2012 and dropped the price of the range-topping EcoBoost model by $3,005. The 2012 MKT goes on sale in late summer.
The price of the base MKT with a 3.7-liter V6 remains unchanged for 2012, at $45,175. Lincoln has dropped the price of the MKT with a 335-horsepower twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, from $50,175 to $47,170 — the same price as last year's midrange 270-hp MKT. The middle trim level has been discontinued for 2012.
All prices include an $875 shipping charge.
Lincoln said it also has greatly reduced the number of ordering options and combinations on the 2012 MKT.
Inside Line says: Still pricey — and still ugly.

We are among the folks who bought one of these MKT's.....and we absolutely love the car. It's just a little hard to look at though!! Can't really say we've grown to love it's looks but it's manners and performance easily won us over from purchasing a new 2011 GMC Acadia Denali and a 2011 Buick Enclave. They are better looking but that's where the beauty ends as the Lincoln out paced and out performed the GM twins. Hoping that Lincoln can do something about the looks. The car itself is a wonderful performer.

I don't get it, I think this is actually a really cool design by Lincoln. Ford has made such an improvement on its products across the board and I really like the retro flare of this thing. It's just too expensive!

Even for those who like the looks, it's no better a bargain than the Ford version. On the other hand, it may have value in the future(Studebaker, anyone? Hudson, anyone?). The good news is, these models OFTEN earn top class ratings and are basically a joy to drive... for those who see past the looks. At 40k, this would sell. I can't see it happening, however, till Lincoln sinks to the "Going out of business" level. Sadly, that won't likely be long at the current rate and direction.
For me, bring back common sense. Design a CAR, style a CAR and sell a CAR... A rear wheel drive CAR! These Fords with different grilles and badges, along with a few different interior appoinments are proving difficult to impress me, and I'm hardly alone. My mother always wanted a Town Car and always settled for a Grand Marquis because of price. Think that over, Lincoln(Ford). While you're at it, hire some actual designers and lose the Ford look-alikes. Bring a LINCOLN back to the table, so we can discuss it over dinner.

They actually build this thing? I thought it was an April Fools joke.

I have to say people hate this vehicle so much it makes me want one. All to often vehicles that this bad turn out the be a fantastic overall automobile. From what I've read it a great vehicle, but when you have a Ford Flex titanium or platinum(can't remember which) why would you purchase this.

Lincoln division may indeed drag Ford Motor Corp down till they are cut away. Seem to have the old GM attitude. Possibly a rough shaken up along with large customer incentives may move the ball across the strike zone.

I will preface my comment with "In my opinion"....This is one of the single most hideous and obnoxious looking new vehicles on the road today....I've seen two, and I won't forget the sight. The grill is just glaringly obnoxious, the body is just so oblong and unpurposeful...Ford has got to do something about this brand. I don't like what they did for the current gen MKX either, the previous was a far handsomer vehicle, and everytime I see it on the road I wonder just why anyone would want to have the new one

Ford seems to have forgotten everything about building luxury cars. There are not one model they sell in the Lincoln brand that is worth having or lusting after, unless you are over 80 years old or can't see straight. They are not willing to spend money on proper rear wheel platforms and even their Mustang is like a 20-30 year design with no independent suspension.
Here is a thought for Ford to ponder, since they have the dealers, what if they enter into a partnership with Kia-Hyundai who lack a luxury brand. Then they can sell the Genesis as their Continental, Equs as their Town Car, and then get versions of two door coupes from Kia (new model to come out and Genesis coupe). Lincoln can then at least focus on luxury SUVs (they desperately need a Q5 size one and one to fight Grand Cherokee) and depending on what they make, Hyundai-Kia may agree to sell them.
Otherwise, Lincoln has no future in America as an independent car company. In fact I say they should do the same to it as they did to Mercury.
