2009 Detroit Auto Show: 2010 Lincoln MKT Makes Worldwide Debut

DETROIT — The 2010 Lincoln MKT, the automaker's six-/seven-passenger sibling to the boxy Ford Flex, makes its global debut on Monday at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show. Lincoln said the MKT will hit showrooms in late summer.

The Dearborn automaker opted not to put the Flex's 262-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 into the more upscale Lincoln MKT. Instead, the MKT gets a standard 3.7-liter V6 that delivers 268 hp at 6,500 rpm and 267 pound-feet of torque at 4,250 rpm.

Ford said in a statement that this engine gets an estimated 24 mpg on the highway. But no official fuel economy numbers for the Lincoln MKT have been posted by the EPA.

The three-row Lincoln MKT can also be ordered with the 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 engine. Ford says that this engine delivers an estimated 355 hp at 5,700 rpm and 350 lb-ft of torque at 3,500 rpm. No official fuel economy numbers are available on this engine yet, either.

All-wheel drive is optional in the Lincoln MKT with the standard 3.7-liter V6. All-wheel drive is standard in the MKT with the EcoBoost 3.5-liter V6.

The MKT can be ordered with either a standard fixed-glass Panoramic Vista Roof or an optional Power Panoramic Vista roof. A rear console-mounted refrigerator is optional in the MKT with individual bucket seating.

Inside Line says: Think of the new Lincoln MKT as a luxurious take on the breadbox styling of the Ford Flex. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent
