The MKT, which is a thinly veiled predecessor of the production model that goes on sale next year, also features Ford's new EcoBoost V6, a twin-turbocharged direct-injection 3.5-liter unit that makes 340 horsepower and more than 340 pound-feet of torque and is also slated for use later this year in Lincoln's new MKS flagship sedan.
In the MKT, the engine can run on gasoline or E85 ethanol. On the latter fuel, output and torque figures climb to 415 hp and 400 lb-ft, respectively. A six-speed select-shift automatic transmission sends power to all four wheels.
The MKT boasts the in-your-face styling theme first introduced by Lincoln a year ago on the MKR concept. Body panels are made of recycled plastic. The four-passenger cabin is designed to emulate the look of a Learjet, with ambient lighting, flexible storage, a hand-knotted silk rug and leather seats with heated and cooled thigh support and deployable footrests.
What this means to you: All these MK-derived monikers are getting mighty confusing. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
