LOS ANGELES — The 2013 Lincoln MKS sedan gets a thorough makeover, from a more powerful standard engine to some sophisticated new safety systems. The car debuts this week at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show and arrives next spring at U.S. dealers.
Ford has updated the big sedan's exterior, too, with a revised grille, hood, front fenders, headlamps, front fascia, deck lid, rear fascia, LED taillamps and exhaust tips, plus new 19- and 20-inch aluminum wheels.
The standard 3.7-liter V6 in the 2013 MKS has been uprated from 274 to 300 horsepower, while torque climbs from 270 to 275 pound-feet. Ford also has improved fuel economy, to 19 mpg in city driving and 28 mpg on the highway.
The uplevel twin-turbo EcoBoost 3.5-liter V6 continues to be rated at 355 hp and 350 lb-ft while returning 17 mpg/city and 25 mpg/highway.
Each powertrain combination includes a six-speed automatic transmission with steering-wheel-mounted shift paddles. All-wheel drive is standard with the EcoBoost 3.5 and optional on the MKS 3.7.
Ford has overhauled much of the chassis hardware on the 2013 MKS, fitting electric power steering, larger brakes, torque vectoring control, continuously controlled damping and new Lane Keeping Alert and Lane Keeping Aid systems.
Among the interior enhancements are a new instrument panel, optional heated steering wheel and choice of new woods and leather colors.
Inside Line says: Even crisper and more powerful for 2013.

I Like it. Lincoln has made an attempt to slim and taper the grill, headlights and sharpen the overall styling. It is a tasteful improvement over the old model. All luxury brands are striving to achieve and maintain a strong and distinctive styling identity (Acura with its shield/blade grill, Lexus with its new pinched/tapered grill on the GS, etc.). I don't think that the styling and details are any worse than much of the luxury car competition. I think the MKS is bold and beautiful. Its size, roominess, and the EcoBoost twin-turbocharged engine make this car extremely competitive in its price range. It shares its chassis with the Taurus, but Taurus itself is a great car. Also note that the Acura TL, which is highly regarded, is based on the Honda Accord, which itself is also a great car.

First impressions are lating ones and this is UGLY!!!!!!!!!!!
Dear Lincoln, STOP trying to integrate the (too wide) grill to the headlights.... its NOT working!!!!!!
Plus, you can see too much solid black plastic behind the grill... proof its too wide!!!!
If Form-Follows-Function (like ALL other luxury car designs), the grill should be separate from the headlights and stand alone, front n center with prominence!!! Remember the grill on the ole Lincolns, Mark-8.... like a Rolls Royce.... thats style!!!!
If i was a Lincoln dealer trying to decide on investing $$$ millions in a Lincoln dealersip.... this ugly 2013 product mix makes that decision very easy.... NO I would NOT invest.... sell the franchise and buy Hyundia/Kia dealership.

Except the parting, the frontal design has some similarity to that of Buick, competing with Buick's buyers?

Add two non-functional hood scoops and it looks just like a Pontiac. Seems like Ford stylists are going in the wrong direction.

I like this better than the previous design--but that's not saying much. This car needs a complete re-think as early as 2014. Any comparison between this and the HOF shoe-in Aztek are absurd.

Really? Looks like they were going after the Acura TL for ugliest designed car right behind the Pontiac Aztec. Geeze, is anyone watching Hyundai? Learn from them, this is pathetic.

BETTER THEN THE OLD ONE BUT I WOULD HAVE DID SOMETHING A LITTLE DIFFERENT WITH THE GRILL. BUT NOT ALL BAD ITS VERY STYLISH AND HANDSOME. TO BAD THE 2013 TAURUS KILLS THIS HANDS DOWN :-( SORRY FOR LINCOLN NEEDS TO BE A LITTLE MORE DISTINCTIVE LIKE CADILLAC. EVEN THOUGH AS ALWAYS CADILLAC HAS BEEN TRYING TO STEEL FORD TECHNOLOGY FOR YEARS.
