2008 Beijing Auto Show: Lifan 620

BEIJING — Chongqing-based Lifan Auto has joined the hordes of Chinese automakers unveiling bland, midrange sedans here at the 2008 Beijing Auto Show with its new Lifan 620.

The company jumped from the motorcycle business into the passenger-car segment three years ago with the launch of its compact Lifan 520. Earlier this year, it began showing the smaller, Mini-inspired 320 hatchback. Now the 620 sedan gives it a "flagship" model that is aimed at such popular homegrown sedans as the BYD F3 and Geely Vision.

Lifan plans to put the 620 on sale later this year with a choice of 1.6- or 1.8-liter four-cylinder engines. Prices will start at around $11,400.

What this means to you: Not much, unless Lifan can figure out how to inject a bit more personality into this generic four-door. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
