It's not as far-fetched as it sounds; the Wiltshire Constabulary took on the GS 450h in 2006, where it is used as a traffic cruiser. Lexus says its police-car product offering is "a compelling proposition" for police and other emergency and public-service uses. The automaker will show RX 400h and GS 450h hybrid models along with the top-end LS 600h. Both standard gasoline- and diesel-powered Lexus products will also be displayed. The IS 200d and IS 250 will be shown in "covert" trim.
Toyota will also show Land Cruiser and Hilux vehicles at the conference, and other manufacturers including BMW, Fiat, Mitsubishi and Volkswagen will vie for the police market at the conference, which takes place at the Cheltenham Racecourse starting on September 2.
What this means to you: Police go green — while they equip themselves for more efficient, and surely more enjoyable, pursuit action. — Laura Sky Brown, Correspondent
