Sir Paul McCartney is reportedly not going to be thrilled that his "green" Lexus LS600h L, a hybrid luxury sedan, was jetted 7,000 miles across the world to be delivered to him rather than shipped by the more fuel-friendly boat method. | September 15, 2009

Sir Paul's Eco-Friendly Lexus Drops a Massive Carbon Footprint

LONDON — He has probably flown millions of miles on jets, but Sir Paul McCartney's reputation is that of an ecologically respectful vegan. With a relationship with Lexus that goes back at least to his U.S. tour in 2005, which the automaker sponsored, it is only natural that the company should offer a car to the former Beatle. The gift, a "green" hybrid Lexus LS 600h, has now made news for quite another reason.

When the news hit that the car was ferried by Korean Air jet from Japan to the U.K., leaving a massive "carbon footprint," the British papers went into a frenzy. McCartney was characterized by the Telegraph newspaper, quoting an unnamed source, as "horrified" to learn that the plane delivery was chosen over shipment by boat.

Ecologists quoted by the paper said the jet trip is "the equivalent of driving the car around the world six times." Lexus did not comment on the matter.
