TOKYO — German Andre Lotterer, a member of the team that captured this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans in an Audi R18, will co-pilot one of two Lexus LFA racecars entered by Gazoo Racing at the upcoming endurance race at Nurburgring.
Lotterer, whose motorsports credentials include Japanese Super GT 500 championships in 2006 and 2009, is the only non-Japanese member of the Gazoo Racing effort, led by driver/team manager Akira Iida.
The 2011 event marks the fourth time that Toyota has entered the LFA at the Ring. A Gazoo Racing LFA won the SP8 class in last year's event, finishing 18th overall.
The automaker said members of the Lexus research and development section are part of Gazoo Racing's technical team and thus "are able to hone skills that can be fed directly into new Lexus products."
Inside Line says: Toyota boss Akio Toyoda no doubt wishes he were going to be behind the wheel of one of those Gazoo LFAs.

You can run around the ring once and put up a good lap time...that will get you admiration. But to compete in a 24 endurance race...that will get you respect.
