TORRANCE, California — The 2011 Lexus LFA supercar will make its North American debut in November at the 2009 SEMA Auto Show, followed by an appearance at the 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show in December, according to a statement by the upscale Toyota brand.

Of course, the SEMA show is not open to the public, so the 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show will mark the first time large numbers of the general public will be able to see the LFA in person here.

Lexus also confirmed that the LFA will be on display at the 2010 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the 2010 Chicago Auto Show, the 2010 Dallas Auto Show and the 2010 New York Auto Show.

The LFA made its global debut this week at the 2009 Tokyo Auto Show.

The auto shows will probably be as close to an LFA as most U.S. consumers are going to get. Lexus said this week that just 500 LFAs will be built for worldwide distribution. The cars will be hand-built by technicians in the "Lexus LFA Works" at the Motomachi Plant in Toyota City at a rate of no more than 20 per month, said the automaker. Of course, a key tenet of Econ 101 is that the market rewards scarcity, which explains why Lexus is making a small batch of the $375,000 LFAs.
