2010 Lexus IS-F Gets Limited-Slip Differential

TORRANCE, California — Lexus has upgraded the IS-F sedan for 2010, most notably by adding a Torsen-type limited-slip rear differential, and upgrades to the wheels and audio technology.

The Torsen-type limited-slip rear differential is new to the 5.0-liter V8-powered IS-F. Previously the 416-horsepower IS-F only had a simulated limited-slip differential effect via its VDIM system. It also has increased spring and damper rates, larger-diameter stabilizer bars and upgraded suspension control arms to adapt to the 19-inch wheels on the 2010 IS-F. The electric power steering system also gets an upgrade for improved response and feel, Lexus said. Brembo brakes designed to Lexus specs have 14.2-inch front rotors and 13.6-inch rears, with the Lexus name on the calipers.

Audio upgrades to the IS-F include iPod/USB connectivity, Bluetooth streaming audio and integrated XM Satellite Radio and NavTraffic/Weather/Sports/Stocks features. The XM comes with a 90-day free trial subscription. A one-year subscription is included to Lexus Enform and Safety Connect as well. Lexus' navigation system gets Voice Command casual-language voice recognition and phonebook downloading through Bluetooth.

Inside Line says: Lexus is sure to garner some appreciation for added performance and enjoyment features on its performance sedan. — Laura Sky Brown, Correspondent
