The standard HS 250h's base price includes leather-trimmed seats, power front seats, a 10-speaker audio system, satellite radio and 17-inch aluminum alloys. It also gets the typical Lexus safety treatment with 10 airbags and front active headrests. A $1,600 Touring package can be added that includes LED headlamps, heated front seats and 18-inch wheels.
The Premium model costs $36,970 before destination and adds heated and ventilated seats, rain-sensing windshield wipers, 18-inch wheels, heated mirrors, wood trim and a key fob memory system that allows individual driving settings to be recalled upon entry.
A Technology package is offered as well, and includes head-up display, lane-departure warning, radar cruise control and park assist, and is only available for the Premium models with navigation.
The car receives a combined 35 mpg fuel economy rating and is powered by a 147 horsepower, 2.4-liter engine with intermittent assistance of up to 40 hp from its electric motor. Four drive modes (Normal, Power, Eco and EV), give drivers the ability to control throttle response and, consequentially, their attained fuel economy.
Inside Line says: Although your basic third-gen 2010 Toyota Prius runs for more than $10,000 less than the HS 250h, there is no substitute for the luxury and safety features offered on Lexus' new dedicated hybrid sedan. — Mike Lysaght, Correspondent
