TORRANCE, California — Toyota has released a teaser photo of the redesigned 2013 Lexus GS 350 sedan ahead of the car's official unveiling August 18 at Pebble Beach.

The production model was previewed earlier this year as the LF-Gh concept at the 2011 New York Auto Show. The four-passenger rear-drive LF-Gh sedan was built on the same 112.2-inch wheelbase as the 2011 Lexus GS, measuring just 2.5 inches longer, at 192.5 inches overall.

In a statement Thursday, Lexus said: "The fourth-generation GS has been completely redesigned, inside and out, and will feature the brand's new design philosophy, with styling cues such as a distinctive new front grille, that will soon be seen on all future Lexus vehicles. The new GS will also lead the rest of the Lexus lineup in an entirely new direction of driving dynamics."

Inside Line tested a preproduction prototype of the new GS earlier this summer and described it as "the best-driving Lexus sedan yet." In his review, Editor Scott Oldham observed, "Lexus may have finally figured out the sport sedan."

Lexus also is considering a GS coupe based on the new sedan, but wouldn't likely put a two-door derivative into production before the spring of 2013, at the earliest.

Inside Line says: The new GS has the potential to evolve into a full family of vehicles.

I like the new design. I hope that Lexus will build the new GS with a lot more horsepower and great handling that will be their with BMW and Mercedes. May the force be with you!!!

****! ****! The grill is ugly!!!! aggghhh!!! scr*w you Lexus! I though you dumped that LF-GH concept grill?

They should've gone for the CT200h front end. That would've been better.

Let's hope it drives better or else it will end up like any other Lexus; dull and uninspiring.

I don't know.. i wasn't really feeling the other lexus teasers for this car, but i think this actually looks pretty good.  Yeah, it's a given that many automakers are going to have LEDs in the headlamp cluster so Audi shud def get credit for starting that movement.. this has potential tho

At first I thought that new grill was a little Darth Vaderish, but now I think it looks more Cylon Warrior from the original Battlestar Galactica.
It just needs the red light traveling back and forth to complete the effect.

Make it a 450hp AWD Lexus version of an Evo and now we're talking.  The styling is already half way there so just finish the job.  Room for your heels in the back seat would be nice too.  That's been ticking me off for a long time in the IS and GS.

Give it 3-4x the power of a CT200h and I'll test drive one.

Like the looks and the promise of BMW drive and toyota reliability. We'll see if that really pans out.

I'm not feeling it at all. I have to see it in person but for now I am not digging that enlarged CT200h front.

And the GS has always been the most "confused" Lexus that never really had a reason to exist in my opinion. It never did anything well. It wasn't roomy nor comfortable nor sporty. Its rivals on the other hand were well-balanced cars that offered a superb mixture and balance between sport, comfort, interior space, payload capacity and so forth. They were simply far more appealing than the GS. Period.

I always felt that the ES was the better deal - roomier, more comfortable and plusher and better value to. FWD? Who cares. Nobody pushes these cars to their limits.
