CHICAGO — Lexus will expand its F Sport accessory lineup to include performance parts for the midsize GS sedan, IS 250 AWD and the new IS C convertible, the company announced at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show today. The company will begin shipping F Sport parts for these cars in June.
F Sport accessories include lightweight 18- and 19-inch forged alloy wheels, front and rear brake upgrade kits, suspension modifications and air intakes and exhaust systems. Among the suspension upgrades you'll find Bilstein shocks, lowering springs, larger sway bars and a rear chassis brace. Owners of rare manual-transmission IS 250 sedans (and soon, convertibles) can also upgrade their cars with an F Sport clutch, short-throw shifter and shift knob.
On the cosmetic side, there's a carbon fiber engine cover and F-Sport-badged floor mats. F-Sport-equipped models are on display at the Chicago show now, and the parts will be available starting in June.
The F Sport performance accessory line was launched last spring with parts for the IS 250 and IS 350. When installed by a dealer, the parts carry up to a 12-month warranty.
All F Sport parts come with a 12-month warranty from the date of installation, or for the balance of the new car warranty in force at the date of installation, whichever is greater, when the parts are installed by an authorized Lexus dealer. If you install them yourself or pay somebody other than a Lexus dealer to do the work, then the warranty is for 12 months from the date of purchase and limited to the replacement cost of the F Sport part only.
Inside Line says: F Sport parts are on the pricey side, but full warranty backing from Lexus gives them an edge over other aftermarket mods you might consider. — Eric Tingwall, Correspondent
