TORRANCE, California — Lexus went on the safety offensive on Tuesday, touting the list of safety features in the 2011 Lexus CT 200h following four recent high-profile recalls of Lexus vehicles. The new Lexus hybrid makes its formal debut later this month at the 2010 Paris Auto Show.
Lexus said the CT 200h will be "equipped with many standard active safety features." They include antilock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, brake assist, traction control, vehicle stability control and eight standard airbags. A pre-collision system with dynamic radar cruise control will be optional on the CT 200h.
The recent Lexus recalls include a June 25, 2010, recall of 17,000 2010 Lexus HS 250h vehicles in the U.S. for fuel spillage, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. On July 29, 2010, Lexus recalled 39,000 LX 470 SUVs from the 2003-'07 model years to fix a steering shaft problem.
Lexus has been slowly releasing details about the CT 200h. Last week, it offered a primer on the hybrid's four driving modes.
Inside Line says: It's unusual to see an automaker put out a statement focusing entirely on a vehicle's safety features, but it's understandable in this case, given the fallout from the Toyota and Lexus recalls this year. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent

Wow, those standard features are impresive and only found in... almost every other car sold in the US....

For this I have to comment. This car is the end of Lexus as a luxury marquee. Simply put, even Audi can't move high numbers of the A3 luxo-hatch and it drives really well. This Toyota Matrix looks like a POS and it sucks to think it's coming to the US. This is one car they should abort or just leave in Europe where it can blend in. Here in the US it'll be the car that screams, "I just wanted a Lexus no matter what it looked like so I could impress my friends! Love me, please! Please?" It even makes the lame Toyota Corolla (Lexus) Hybrid look somewhat decent, yet both suffer from disproportionate designs that look like they were launched after the first sketch.
My opions are strong, I studied car design at Art Center and nothing will make me change my mind about this hideous POS.
Peace!

So they are touting safety features my now 5 year old vehicle already had back in 2005? Whoop-de-doo...What, are they going to brag about having modern conviniences such as power windows and door locks too?

The overall performance of CT is nothing to write home about so safety is about all they really have to sell.
