    What Is It?

    2006 Land Rover Range Rover

    What's Special About It?

This minor refresh of the current Range Rover introduces a number of subtle upgrades to Land Rover's top-of-the-line model. Heading the list are two new Jaguar-designed engines: a 305-horsepower, 4.4-liter V8 and a 400-hp, 4.2-liter supercharged V8. The standard engine offers a 23-hp premium over its predecessor while the optional supercharged V8 is the most powerful engine ever offered in a Land Rover. Revised steering, upgraded brakes and a retooled air suspension are also on the list of changes for 2006.

Styling revisions include a new front fascia, mesh power vents on the quarter panels and updated taillights. Supercharged models are distinguished by a mesh grille, 20-inch wheels and black-on-silver badges. Interior upgrades on all models include new colors, a rearview back-up camera and an optional twin-screen DVD system in back. Sales of these enhanced Range Rovers are expected to begin this summer.

    What's Edmunds' Take?

The fact that the Range Rover gets official "Ford" power in place of BMW-built engines isn't likely to change its character much, but the added draw of the supercharged model is sure to entice a few more buyers looking for the ultimate luxury SUV. — Ed Hellwig
