GAYDON, England — Land Rover has released the LR4 Armored Edition, also sold in the U.K. and other markets as the Discovery 4 Armored Edition.
The LR4 Armored replaces the earlier LR3/Discovery 3 Armored, and features a 370-horsepower 5.0-liter direct-injection gasoline V8, six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Land Rover says 0-60-mph acceleration takes less than 10.6 seconds.
The five-passenger vehicle is equipped with what Land Rover describes as "discreet armoring," which makes it the "ideal choice for government agencies, security organizations and businesses whose employees are exposed to high-risk locations."
Additional protective equipment, developed with vehicle armoring specialist Centigon, includes ballistic steel armor, heavy-duty glass and under-floor protection from hand grenades and other explosives.
To accommodate the additional weight, Land Rover has fitted an uprated air suspension with retuned shocks, larger-diameter stabilizer bars and heavy-duty Alcon brakes.
Inside Line says: The company also offers a custom-tailored professional driver training program on request. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent

And how much is the extra weight? That's always a fun figure for armored vehicles. Maybe we can estimate from 370HP and 10.6 seconds ... 8000 pounds?
