What's special about it?
Armed with a tough, elegant new interior and a distinctive exterior appearance, the new Discovery Series II SD model is specifically equipped to make Land Rover ownership a reality for more vehicle buyers. With an MSRP of $33,350, the Discovery Series II SD represents a 2.5 percent reduction in the base price of the Discovery.
The SD features a new Duragrain interior - a tough leatherette material - that replaces the previously offered cloth interior, solid black bumpers and SD designation badges.
By industry standards, the SD is hardly a base model, despite its price. The SD receives the 4.0-liter V8 engine, dual-mode automatic transmission, permanent four-wheel drive, traction control, hill descent control, and four-channel anti-lock brakes as standard equipment.
Options include a rear third seat, cold climate package and dual sunroofs. Expect to see the new SD series in dealer showrooms this fall.
Why should you care?
If you've ever wanted a Land Rover, but couldn't afford it, your time has come. While the SD model is virtually the same as the Series II under the skin, Land Rover has successfully reduced the amenities without cheapening the Discovery.
