    Hi,

Does anyone have any information for:

    1) Can this Defender be registered in the US?

    2) Are there any more available for sale overseas? I would move my 2011 RR Sport for one right now ... along with enough savings to pay for gas for like the next 5 years while having a lot more fun driving

    I would have bought one...in diesel too...and I'm American.

Not sure why LR never imported these for an extended period here in the US.  I guess the bean counters gave them some reason.  It just seems like such a money maker, that no one is interested in...guess the car business is boomin' in the UK to bother.

Where did the rear driver's side window go in pic #2?  It's there in Pic #3.

Again, I understand the conversion rate, and that vehicles are not a dollar-for-dollar conversion when shipping them to other countries...I get it.

I also know there are cheaper versions.  I'm talking about this one, this special edition.  If an LR2 starts at 36k, and for some reason they ended up bringing this Defender over (for arguments sake), there is no way it would list at or near 22k.  Like I said, look at what a Defender 90 is going for, used, right now, and those are more than 10 years old.  This is a new, limited edition, pretty much loaded to the gill version (I know it's not a 90).  I could almost guarantee it would go close to the 40k number.  And you know what else, people would buy them up.

That's the conversion I'm talking about. The Audi R8 starts at USD $145k in Germany. It starts at USD $114k in the US. The Defender would be much cheaper if available in the US. And again, this is a limited edition. There are cheaper Defenders available.

    syrax -

I understand that.  But I'm talking about if the Defender was available here in the states vs. a stateside Wrangler.  39k vs. 22k starting points.  I'm not talking about economics or conversion rates, I'm talking vehicle for the money, IF, this Land Rover was available here for 39k.  Love the vehicle, wouldn't spend the money.

I'm not concerned with a U.K. Wrangler.  If I was, I would buy it here and ship it over there.  34k for a base Wrangler Unlimited...I'd probably buy the Defender over that if the prices were that close.  And conversely, they sure as heck wouldn't drop the price of the Defender by the same amount to bring it here.  Didn't before.  Have you seen what a Defender 90 is going for now?

Of course, if I lived there and had the money, I'd take the double cab pickup.

On a lighter note, the Zermatt front end looks like a panda.

@smilez: Simple conversions never work. But anyway, if IL converted the price from GBP to get USD $39k the Wrangler in UK STARTS at £22k. That's $34k. And this is a special version, the Defender starts at £20k.

But the Wrangler STARTS at $22k, and this STARTS at $39k.

I'm kind of between banhugh and ed341.  I think a Wrangler is just about every bit as capable as the Defender, however I do know the history and track record of the Defender.

Paul, have one sent over and have a throw-down.  That's not asking much is it?

Look at the prices of loaded Wranglers... then come back and comment. Also remember that this would eat a Wrangler's lunch..or the Jeep itself.
