CHICHESTER, England — A 1967 Lamborghini 400GT owned by Paul McCartney when he was a member of the Beatles is bound for auction on July 1 during the annual Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The estimate range for the McCartney Lamborghini is $162,000-$195,000.
English auction house Bonhams says the car has been in long-term ownership and has right-hand drive, which is expected to limit its appeal to U.S. bidders. It is not known how long the former Beatle owned the Lamborghini. The 400GT is the successor to the 350GT and has a body crafted by Carrozzeria Touring, one of the high-profile Italian coach-builders of the era.
Bonhams has auctioned off other cars belonging to the Fab Four, including John Lennon's 1965 Ferrari 330 GT.
According to Bonhams' online lot preview for the Goodwood event, a 1954 Aston Martin DB 2/4 cabriolet once owned by Formula 1 driver Innes Ireland is expected to steal most of the limelight. That car is expected to fetch upwards of $1.1 million.
Inside Line says: Not one of the must-have vintage Lambos, but one with lots of appeal if you're a fan of the Beatles.

to best and clerk.....must everything be an argument? In their time the two mentioned here were Supercars.........obviously times and technologies have moved on in 45 years............The 400GT is a beauty .She came after the first road going Lambo , the 350GT from about 63. and Clerk-- if you like to see other earlier Lamo's check out the Islero, Jarama, Uracco, and Miura .........these were all pre Countach era......at 26 you apparently "get it".
To "best" it would help to think outside a 2011 box.

@bestnjinjo
I'm 26. Good deduction, though.
As far as the design of supercars being dictated by form-
Porsche 911 (beautiful)
Ferrari 599 GTO (beautiful)
Audi R8 (... well, not as ugly as a Lambo)
GT-R (some would say not a supercar, but the pavement on the nurburgring says otherwise)
SLS (what the SLR should have been)
Modern Lamborghinis are tacky. You can get good aerodynamics and handling abilities out of a car that looks graceful rather than adolescent.

clerk1892, you must be over the age of 60. The whole point of a supercar is that it looks like nothing else and that you have it posted on your wall and dream about it since you are 5 years old. Maybe when you were 5 years old when this car came out, it was a "supercar" to you. But another reason modern supercars are designed the way they are is to achieve optimal downforce and cornering abilities, while not sacrificing the top speed too much. I bet that car in the article is slower than a 2011 VW GTI....and while elegant, it's no supercar.

Not one of the must-have vintage lambos? This is one of the prettiest cars Lamborghini has ever made. It is without a doubt prettier than any of the monstrosities they make now. Notice how it doesn't look like some designer at Hot Wheels penned the body lines? Thats called class. Someone at Lamborghini should take a look at their own portfolio.
