2005 Lamborghini Murcielago Roadster
What's special about it?
Already one of the world's most exotic Italian supercars, the Murcielago roadster bumps the fantasy factor up another notch by going roadster style. First shown in prototype form at the 2003 Detroit Auto Show, this full production version has a more finished look than the cobbled together concept. With no easily collapsible top of any kind, don't count on this Italian for daily-driver duty, but we're guessing that anyone who car afford one will already have plenty of other cars to choose from should the need arise. Apart from the lack of a fixed roof, the Murcielago roadster is identical to the coupe right down to the 572 horsepower V12 under the hood and full-time all-wheel drive. If such a combination or performance and style appeals to you, check in with your local Lambo dealer in about six months time as the roadster isn't scheduled to go on sale until this fall at the earliest.
What's Edmunds Take?
With the equally fast and half as expensive Gallardo stealing all the headlines, Lamborghini finally went ahead and created the obligatory open-topped Murcielago to bring back some luster to the flagship Murcielago. So what happens when the inevitable Gallardo roadster appears? Who knows, but we don't see any problem with Lamborghini having a little competition with its ranks to keep things interesting.
