Lamborghini Murcielago Concept
What's Special About It?
If you didn't think the old Countach or the current Murcielago were enough, then the open-top version of the Murcielago is just your cup of tea. We're pretty sure it has a cool Italian name, but for all practical purposes it's a Murcielago targa or cabriolet. Under the hood you'll find the same 575-horsepower V12 that powers the fixed-roof Murcielago. A six-speed manual transmission puts all that power to the pavement. Lamborghini calls it a more aggressive and more extreme car than the current Murcielago, and who can argue that? Yes, the Murcielago does seem like automotive overkill upon overkill, but the good news is that the it looks as if it should have been an open-top car to begin with. The windshield sweeps back and down giving the car a speedboatlike appearance when viewed from above, and the superthin A-pillars blend nicely into the side glass.
Why Should You Care?
High-dollar, high-horsepower cars like Lamborghini are the stuff slot-car-fueled childhood dreams are made of. While few of us will ever enjoy Lamborghini ownership, it's nice to know the company is not content to simply rest on past successes.
Why else should we care? The poster is sure to grace the walls of boyhood bedrooms from Topeka to Milan. Brian Moody
