Lamborghini Miura Concept
What's Special About It?
On this, the 40th anniversary of the Lamborghini Miura, the company saw fit to pay tribute to what many consider the most beautiful sports car of all time.
The new head of Lamborghini design, Walter de' Silva, who has served as head of design at Audi, was so taken by the original Miura that he was inspired to create this "rebirth of the original." With unabashed enthusiasm, de' Silva stated, "Over the last two years, I have often dreamt of redesigning the Miura. Now, thanks to my new position...I have been able to turn that dream into a reality."
A modern interpretation that stays true to the fluid, sensuous lines of the first Miura, the concept does away with some of the gingerbread such as the B-pillar strakes and headlamp "eyelashes" which adorned the 1966 model. It all makes for a cleaner form.
No mention of powertrain was given for this static-only concept, but if Lambo decided to produce it, we imagine it wouldn't have any trouble digging up a 10- or 12-cylinder powerhouse for it.
What's Edmunds' Take?
Two minor criticisms; the air splitters up front are the one discordant styling element and the wheels are a little too big. The super-thin sidewalls just don't look right to us.
Although Signor de' Silva emphasized that this Miura was "strictly a design concept," we've heard that before. Judging by the multitudes of dropped jaws and awed silence witnessed when the shroud was lifted, we're hoping for a resurrection. — John DiPietro
