SANT'AGATA BOLOGNESE, Italy — Lamborghini has released a video showcasing the vehicle it built in tribute to the recently retired test driver Valentino Balboni.

The video tells a tale of a very humble man who is proud to be recognized as a representative for the charging bull brand. Balboni was a Lamborghini test driver for 40 years, and he says it would be difficult to find someone who has logged more miles in a Lambo. He is close to tears by the end of the video, blown away by the honor of having a supercar built in his name.

We get more than a few shots of the Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2 Valentino Balboni racing around the track, and you can really tell it is rear-wheel drive when it starts drifting around turns with plenty of oversteer. Watch the video below with Valentino Balboni doing donuts and giving you an idea of just how fast his homage vehicle is.

The Gallardo LP550-2 Valentino Balboni has a 5.2-liter V10 that makes 542 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque, getting the car from zero to 60 mph in less than 3.9 seconds.

Lamborghini is building 250 units of the Balboni edition. All get a distinct white-and-gold stripe down the center of the vehicle. The price is the equivalent of $219,800.

Inside Line says: Lamborghini honors Balboni by making a high-performance supercar with his name on it—just the way he would have dreamed it. — Mike Lysaght, Correspondent
