Lamborghini Tests Gallardo Super Trofeo

ROME, Italy — Lamborghini has concluded the first track testing of the new Gallardo Super Trofeo, well in advance of the racing car's maiden voyage at Silverstone Circuit in early May.

Tests, focused mainly on calibration of the Pirelli racing tires and initial setup of the car, were conducted under simulated race conditions at the Vallelunga track outside Rome, with Lambo test driver Giorgio Sanna at the wheel.

Lamborghini describes the upcoming series as "the world's fastest single-brand competition" and has scheduled events at Adria (Italy), the Norisring (Germany), Spa (Belgium), Barcelona (Spain) and Paul Ricard (France).

The automaker, part of the Volkswagen Group, is building 30 Super Trofeo cars, mostly for wealthy enthusiasts and dealer teams. The lone factory car will be offered to celebrity drivers.

The Super Trofeo racing car is based on the recently launched Gallardo LP560-4, with upgraded chassis, tires and brakes, a massive carbon-fiber rear wing, an ultralight racing seat, a racing steering wheel and other related modifications for the track.
