Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2 Spyder Arrives: 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show

    6 Ratings
    Just the Facts:
    • One more configuration of the Gallardo Spyder — this one with rear-wheel drive and "only" 543 horsepower.
    • The 5.2-liter V10 engine still enables a top speed of 198 mph.
    • Transmission choices include an e-gear sequential and a six-speed manual.

LOS ANGELES — Although its successor lurks on the horizon, the Lamborghini Gallardo isn't quite ready to fade into oblivion — certainly not with almost 12,000 units already delivered to customers, which makes this the best-selling Lambo of all time. And good reason to add yet another model — the Gallardo LP550-2 Spyder — to the family.

The Gallardo LP550-2 Spyder actually takes a step downmarket from its more illustrious siblings, including the Gallardo LP560-4 Spyder and the exclusive Gallardo LP570-4 Spyder Performante.

As its model designation implies, the LP550-2 Spyder is rear-wheel drive and its 5.2-liter V10 makes "only" 550 PS, or 543 horsepower, as well as 398 pound-feet of torque. That's good enough to enable a top speed of 198 mph and 0-60 acceleration in less than 4.2 seconds. Transmission choices include an e-gear sequential unit and a six-speed manual.

The Gallardo LP550-2 Spyder rides on 19-inch alloy rims with Pirelli P Zero performance rubber — 235/35ZR19 front and 295/30ZR19 rear.

Inside Line says: Even the "downmarket" Gallardo Spyder is frighteningly quick.

Oi... Kill the damn car already, and introduce a 458 killer.  I get it.  The Gallardo is special.
