2008 Geneva Auto Show: Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4

GENEVA — At the 2008 Geneva Auto Show, Lamborghini has pulled the wraps off its first significant makeover of the Gallardo since the car's introduction in 2003. The new Gallardo LP560-4 goes on sale across Europe in June, priced starting at $222,000.

The new LP560-4 is so named for its more powerful engine, a new direct-injection 5.2-liter V10 that makes 552 horsepower, and its permanent four-wheel drive. Lamborghini says the addition of nearly 40 hp and a reduction in weight help trim 0-60-mph acceleration to less than 3.7 seconds. Top speed is 202 mph.

Lamborghini also has upgraded the car's suspension to provide better handling, traction and high-speed stability. The Gallardo continues to feature an aluminum body on an aluminum space-frame chassis.

The front end of the Gallardo has been resculpted, with larger air intakes providing additional cooling. Headlights combine bi-xenon lamps and LED running lights. The rear end also has been redesigned, drawing on styling cues from earlier Lamborghinis, including the fabled Miura.

Customers can select from leather or Alcantara upholstery and trim, with carbon-fiber accents also available. Standard equipment includes air-conditioning and a multimedia system.

What this means to you: The face-lifted Gallardo exudes a bit more personality to go along with the extra muscle. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
