    What Is It?
    2006 Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder

    What's Special About It?
Much more of a true roadster than its brother, the Murcielago roadster, the Gallardo Spyder features a soft top that folds down out of sight. Power-controlled, the top disappears in just 20 seconds and preserves the lines of the car by stowing underneath the engine cover. There is also a glass rear window that can be lowered or left raised to act as a wind blocker.

Reinforcements to the A-pillars and rocker panels minimize the loss of structural integrity and a rollover protection system features two pop-up roll bars to protect the noggins of the occupants should the unthinkable occur.

As with the coupe, there is a V10 engine mounted amidship that now belts out 520 horsepower at 8,000 screaming rpm. A six-speed sequential-shift transmission with automated clutch sends the power to all four wheels which are shod with Pirellis P Zeros measuring 235/35/19 in front and 295/30/19 out back. The combination of stupendous power with lots o' grip translates to gut-wrenching acceleration: zero to 62 mph in 4.3 seconds. Keep your foot in it and you'll see about 195 mph.

    What's Edmunds' Take?
What could be better than driving a 520-hp Lamborghini? Piloting one that has a drop top, making it even more thrilling to hear those luscious engine sounds and enjoy the rush that only excessive power can provide. — John DiPietro
