A Devil of a Good Time, Paisan
Geneva - Since there will be no Turin show this year, Geneva became the home base for Italian carmakers. That means it was the perfect opportunity for Audi's newly acquired marque, Lamborghini, to show off another variation of the Diablo sports car.
Unfortunately, Lamborghini's spokesman decided to hold the official press conference in English. That's unfortunate because he spoke it very poorly, unlike the professional linguists who were on hand to translate foreign speeches. Adding to the confusion, the same press information was printed only in Italian. So please don't quote us on any of the following details, because they are translated rather loosely (our grasp of the Italian language being limited to phrases we've picked up from movies such as "The Godfather", "Donnie Brasco" and "Goodfellas").
The Diablo GT is powered by a 6.0-liter, four-valve-per-cylinder V12 engine, which produces 575 horsepower at 7300 rpm. Torque peaks with 630 Newton meters at 5500 giri al minuto (or, loosely translated, that's 465 foot-pounds of torque at 5500 rpm). With that kind of power, the Diablo GT could reach a top speed of 206 mph (if only roads were so flat and straight).
Handling-wise, this thing looks scary. The Diablo GT has a 40/60 front-to-rear weight distribution, so it might not be difficult to spin donuts at low speeds. Tires are 245/35ZR18 up front and 335/30ZR18 monsters in the back, any of which will cost a good deal of lire to replace.
Then again, Lamborghini buyers have few concerns about money. Only 80 Diablo GTs will be built, each costing approximately $350,000.
