An Exclusive Look at the 2012 Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4

Behind the Scenes with the Star of the Geneva Auto Show

    There's no denying that the 2012 Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 was one of the biggest stars of the 2011 Geneva Auto Show. It had all the ingredients of a show-stopping supercar stuffed into a shape that was rivaled only by the models standing next to it.

    But seeing the new Lamborghini sitting on a show stand is one thing. Hearing the Aventador LP700-4 ripping across the desert is another experience entirely. We know this because we recently spent a day with the new Lamborghini on a film shoot in the California desert.

    The Aventador LP700-4 wore the same Argos orange color as the showcar, so it looked particularly striking after getting covered in a thick coat of dry lake silt. And when it fired up to head out for its beauty shots, the sound of its 6.5-liter V12 didn't disappoint.

    We're looking forward to getting behind the wheel of this new Lamborghini later this spring, but for now we'll have to be content with this quick and dirty preview. If you weren't looking forward to the debut of the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 before, you will be after seeing our photos and videos from the desert. Enjoy.

    No need to wait for the 458 to come in stock; just get the Aventador. I cannot believe I thought 458 was good looking. (To be fair, 458 is beautiful but I think Aventador tops it)

    BTW, the red line is 8250rpm I believe

    Now that is what a super car should look like!!  Ferrari fire your designer and steal Lambos.  Park this next to say the new Ferrari FF and no one will notice the Ferrari.

    waaaaait a minute. an exclusive video for the new Lambo, and we get treated to cheesy, generic background music instead of V-12 exhaust music? no no, my friends- bad form.

    Why do the videos on Insideline NEVER work when a new article is posted? I feel like it takes hours until they're processed.

    With regards to the V12's engine note, it all depends on what you expect to hear from a V12. Most people are used to low pitched howls rather than high pitched notes from such engines and I think the reason why the latter is more the case with this one is coz its making 700hp from 6.5L. I dunno where its redline is, but unlike older V12's that normally make much less hp/L, which emphasizes more torque from low down the rev range, to get that kind of power-to-displacement ratio from an NA engine, it probably has most of its power at the top-end of its rev range and so needs to be revved high like a race car, making this kind of engine note more appropriate. All makes sense since Lambos stopped wanting to be "just hypercars" and become real supercars too.

    How very exciting, whatever it was they were doing so impressively.

    I wonder if that was James Bond; probably not; too Italian for him.  Maybe it was the super-rich and powerful bad guy driving just one of his many exotic sports cars.

    I just might have to add one of these to my collection.

    @imag1

    "And yet every supercar article has people saying, "oh yeah - it looks like all the others".  WTF people?  What do you want it to look like, besides a car?"

    Well I'll say Ferrari did a good job with the new 458 except for the holes next to the headlights.....Konegsegg or however you spell it, those look very nice....Spyker can be interesting.....Audi R8......

    Lambos all look like the same computer generated paper airplane these days. Generic supercars. Just dont see the passion that went into older Lambos like Countach and so on.
