The four-door, five-passenger midsize crossover is being presented here as a concept, but its design appears to be well advanced, if not quite production-ready.
The C-Cross shares basic underpinnings with the Renault Mégane (AvtoVAZ is in a joint venture with Renault). Major elements of the vehicle were designed in Russia, an AvtoVAZ official said. Darkly tinted glass prevented any view of the interior.
The vehicle's 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine is expected to return highway fuel economy of more than 30 mpg, said AvtoVAZ.
A company representative said the production version of the C-Cross would cost about $18,500 — the going price in Moscow for the midsize Nissan Almera sedan.
What this means to you: With so many Western automakers scrambling for leadership in Europe's fastest-growing car market, AvtoVAZ is under pressure to prove it's in tune with fashion. — Tai Adelaja, Correspondent
