The special edition is known as the Dallara Series, named after the company that manufactures the X-Bow's carbon-fiber frame. Dallara has also tuned the chassis for the special edition, and a limited-slip differential and a removable steering wheel have been added. The Dallara Series car shown in Geneva will shed the orange synthetic body panels of previous concepts for a set of black carbon-fiber panels. The special-edition cars will also be marked with numbered plaques and special graphics.
All X-Bows make power from an Audi-sourced 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder making 240 horsepower. Power is fed to the rear wheels through a six-speed transmission. At less than 1,600 pounds, the car is intended for track use but is street legal in several European countries.
Production of the X-Bow is set to begin in spring 2008, with approximately 500 units being produced this year. Beginning in 2009, KTM anticipates building 1,000 X-Bows each year. The car is currently only available in Europe.
What this means to you: Another reason to envy the Europeans and their cars. — Eric Tingwall, Correspondent
